Marble & Gilt Bronze Figural Ball Clock with Rouge Marble Plinth and Travel Case. Excellent gilt bronze nude figure of the Roman Godess Luna (Greek: Selene), the goddess of the moon, with her crescent crown and cloak blowing in the breeze, accompanied by a nude putti holding a torch, a rooster and a 2.5" pure white Carrara marble sphere representing the moon. Round brass 1 day spring driven time only movement with platform lever escapement is signed with initials "M.B." with a hammer in an oval; the sphere acts as the time dial with 4 applied star quarter hour markers and the sweeping hands take the form of a snake. On a white marble base with gilt brass filigree mounts and feet, the clock can be placed on the 4.75" high rouge marble plinth or can be store in the original leather bound case with gilt hand tooled trim. Running condition, excellent overall with no damage to the marble or bronze. 8.5" high x 4.5" wide x 4" deep. Weight: 17 lbs.
