Description

J.H. Belter "Fountain Elms" Pattern Pierced Carved Laminated Rosewood Rococo Sofa. Excellent carved crests with flowers, fruit, filigree and cornucopias over the serpentine S-scroll framework, has pierced floral and filigree carving in the back with coiled cornucopias, continuous arms, cabriole legs and heavily carved seat-rail having a serpentine form. Flaking to the veneer on the left rear crest, small carving front missing on the left below the crest, stress cracks in right rear leg and small seam crack in the seat rail; excellent original finish, needs new upholstery though the frame structure is solid. Lining under the upholstery retains an original stencil reading "Boott Mills, B, Heavy Sheeting"; Boot Mills was a cotton mill in Lowell, MA, the building remains today as a cotton mill museum. 49.5 in. high x 88.5 in. wide x 32 in. deep.
